16 August 2026, He died today and i cried like a baby in the morning. And i don’t know how much i wanted to cry more. Wherever i look, i was being reminded of him only.
I spent time with him everywhere in my home. I took him to my office with me in my car. He was my true friend. Within few days he made important place in my heart. I wanted to raise him. I was living alone and when he came into my life, i became very peaceful person.
Now that he is gone there is nothing left of him except the memories and few life lessons.
I really wanted to honor my little friend and but wasn’t able to think of anything with which i can truly honor him.
Noting was coming in my mind. I was in sorrow. I just wanted to cry and write about him on my diary. I cried many times doing this. After some time when i went out to eat, it stuck on my mind that i should dedicate website to him and tell the whole world his story.
I don’t want any other baby bird to die from human hands. If any human finds a baby bird and not able to find its nest and not able to give it back to his parents. They might want to raise it but won’t know how to do it. There are many videos and content on internet but i want to share my true experience.
I genuinely believe i killed my baby bird. He was just 18 days old. It is all my fault. I should have been more careful. I could have done more. I did many mistakes with him. I should have taken care of small things and not let him die like this. I killed him. I am his killer.
He was my baby. I never given him formal name but after his death i want to give him name I usually chanted to him – Billu.
When he was with me, i never overthinked, but now, after he is gone, i am getting strange kind of thoughts in my mind. One thing i suddenly realized that- Humans can never be true friend of each other, because they always have some expectations from each other but animals, birds and trees can be true friends with the human. They don’t want anything from you. They only need love and small amount of care, and they give you a lot of love back. They never fails to make you more peaceful.
Whatever i was doing from past few days and wherever i went he was with me, almost all the time. I am missing his little feathers, Small body, His voice.
Today is the saddest of 2026 for me. I know, it would be hard for me for few days but i never want to forget my friend and i always want to keep him in my memories.

The Beginning
The things started when, I began parking my car to new parking spot in my building. There was one sparrow nest above my car. I observed bird droppings every day on the ground but i never thought much of it. After few days my car wiring cut by rats and i got very frustrated. Everyday i started spraying Rodent repellent in my car engine area. One day decided to take the the nest. I thought birds might have fly away because i didn’t observe new droppings from the nest. I took one long pipe and struck the nest with it and after few hits it fell down. Along with it, fell down two small baby birds. I instantly felt very bad. The dogs around instantly started barking to eat them and me out of guilt wanted to save them.
I never touched bird in my life. I mostly stay away from all kinds of animals. But now i have to bring them to my home at 4th floor of building. I had one big polythene in my car so i put it down on the ground nearby and dragged them on it and picked it up and bring them to my home. I am living alone from few months as my wife went to her native for few months.
It was 22:00 at night and i had two birds with me and i didn’t knew what to do with them. I didn’t want to touch them so i picked them with tissue paper and placed them in small bamboo container.
Then i started searching what to feed them and how to feed them on YouTube and seen few videos. I boiled one egg and sliced small pieces and made its paste and put it in their small mouth with my hands. They ate it quickly with their small mouth. Then i quickly washed my hands.
Due to knowledge from videos i got to know that they need heat. So i took the heat pad and placed it in their container and they quickly became comfortable and slept by touching their small bodies with it. I also felt relieved and guilty on what i have done.
I did some more research at night and found out that the should be fed kitten food and nothing else at this time. They both were 3 to 5 days old at that time. Small baby was little injured but other one was healthy.
So the journey began, Next morning i ordered kitten food from quick delivery app and heated it, mashed it and fed small portions of meat to each one by one and they quickly ate it. Then i fed more and they ate it. I felt very happy.
The main problem – I have to go to office daily from Monday to Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM. I planned to come back in lunch time to feed them. Before going to office i went down in the parking to check if their parents are looking for them and placed them on my car roof for half-hour. But they didn’t came. So i bring them back in my home and fed them again and make warm environment for then and went to office. I came at 1 PM and fed them and then again went back. That’s how first day passed.
I was having a lot of difficulty feeding them mashed meat so i tried small piece without mashing it and it worked well. Then next day passed the same way.
I observed their behavior – The younger one was very active. He was very quick to eat food. The elder one was little impatient. He tries to eat very quickly but while doing so he threw it outside his mouth. They became my companion very quickly.
The Plan – I planned to raise them till they both are ready to flew. Then if they want to go then let them go or if they wish to stay with me i would keep them or they can come to me sometime for food.
After three days, I planned to come directly in the evening from office, so i fed them well and placed them outside in my balcony hoping their parents might eventually notice them and can take them if they want to. I was hoping, nothing bad would happen.
But, When i reached home in the evening one baby was outside its bowl and other was dead inside. For the first time i cried and i placed that dead baby on my hand and gave it CPR for like and half an hour. I was giving it heat and rubbing its body while praying to god, hoping it might wake up. But that won’t happen. I was not willing to give up for two hours but then eventually i realized – nothing can be done now.
Lesson No 1: Don’t Leave them alone for long period of time without food and heat, especially in outside environment. Keep them in dark place and feed them in small amounts of kitten food after every hour or two. Don’t overfeed them. They will not open their mouth once they are done. Sometimes you might want to pinch their mouth open and place small food in their mouth if you have trouble feeding them naturally.
Lesson No 2: Take care of their hygiene. Remove their droppings frequently. They have one good habit of not dropping at place where they sit. They will crawl backward to shit in other corner and then move back to their place. Clean their cloth frequently or you can place tissue papers on their resting cloth.
Now the story continues…

I fed the second baby well and felt very bad for him. It was the first night of his life without his brother. That night, i wasn’t able to sleep. I checked him many time after every hour or two. But by nature’s grace he was fine. He was The Survivor, The Warrior.
Next day i decided to take him with me to office. I planned to keep him in my car. Temperatures these days are ambient i.e. not very high and also not very low. The baby needs heat so car’s temperature was fine for him. I packed its food with me and shifted my baby bird in one big ventilated basket. This was good decision. I came to parking every one or two hours to feed it and bird also felt very excited and we were doing good progress.
I was keeping the baby on the tissue paper in the basket and every time i come to feed it, i throw that tissue away so cleaning the basket frequently also.
It was very good idea. Baby was growing very good and healthy. He now identified my hand as has mother. Whenever i keep my hand nearby he takes my finger in his mouth by widely opening it.
I was also becoming more comfortable carrying him in bare hands and feeding him with bare hands. But every time after i washed my hands properly.
I told my office friends about the bird and they were also linking it. They sometimes come with me to feed it.
When i went to part, i take him with me keeping in the car and feeding him in some intervals. I was very much in love with my billu. 10 days passed like this. Now i wanted to teach him picking so i started placing millet in his basket but he never wanted eat. He just wanted to eat from my hand only.
The Mistakes
Now i started taking him casually. I cared less for him. I left it to walk on my floor mat. The thinking behind was to make it strong and more active. I wanted to make him self reliant slowly but i did it too fast.
Yesterday was national holiday and i had a lot of works to do. I had to clean my house, laundry, and many more things. I kept its bucket open and placed it in balcony. Then kept it under fan for few more hours as i was also sitting nearby watching TV. During the day i fed it less. By the evening i fed it big piece (Big enough for him) of egg. It was clearly visible on his neck. I over fed it. All in one i would say i became careless.
The Turning Point
Yesterday night after realizing my harsh treatment to my baby bird, I decided to keep patience and to take care for him again. So i gently placed him in basket and placed heat pad for heating i tried to feed it but he wouldn’t open his mouth. So i let him sleep. After around one hour i checked him again in his basket he was sleeping.
I went to sleep. At night, Around 1 AM i woke up for toilet and when i went back to bed again and lied down i heard high pitched voice of some sparrow bird. He cried for 4 times but i thought i is coming from outside the house. Thought came to my mind to go and check him once but i showed carelessness.
The Final Destination
Today I woke up in the morning at 8.30. The first thing i did after urinating – check the baby bird. The shock. The sorrow. He was dead. Body cold. Tears in my eyes. Praying to god (If you exist) “send him back please”. I put it in my hand to give it heat. Rubbing his body. Crying and cursing myself. It’s all my fault. I placed it in my hand.
I sat in balcony and kept rubbing my Billu’s body for giving him CPR. Suddenly his parents started flying in front of my balcony. I placed him in my hand and offered him to them. I was hoping that my Billu will suddenly wake up now.
I sent message to my wife “My baby bird is gone”
She video-called me. I picked up and started crying like a baby. I wasn’t able to say single word. After some time i disconnected the call and sat on floor.
I cried siting on my floor mat. Where ever i looked i seen him doing what he regularly do. He used to crawl to me whenever i placed him away from me. He always wanted to stay in my hand. He used to open his mouth wide and tried to eat my finger.
The Realizations
Carelessness guilt is eating me from that time and i can’t do anything about it.
Carelessness guilt: What you could have done and not did due to ignorance.
I suddenly realized few things.
- Never be careless. You always need to be careful until the human baby or baby bird or any other animal is completely depends on you.
- Don’t make them do what they don’t want. I thought of making him strong by treating him harshly. Never do that. When the time is right they will do everything by themselves. They will ask for it. Until then don’t do anything.
- Keep them in the same environment which is suited to them for their growth. Till they want change never do change in their lifestyle.
- Never force feed them millet or eggs. I did this mistake. Again when the change is required they will ask for it.
- They only need love and care from you and small amount of food.
- Identify – How much they matter to you. You have to take care of them for one or two months only. Feed them good food. Regret will be far bigger than the small amount of money you saved.
Life Lessons
- If you really care about someone. Never be careless, until they wants you to be. Till they are dependent on you, by choice or due to helplessness, Never be careless.
- You will cry more out of guilt than the sorrow of actual incident.
- You are not doing anything for anyone but for yourself only. You are selfish.
- Nature is cruel, it will take away what you don’t deserve.
- You are crying for yourself, Not for the loved ones.
- You are crying for what will happen to you after they are gone, not for them.
The Final Verdict
Now it’s 06:55 PM in the evening, I am finished writing this whole life experience, birds are still chirping outside my balcony, Like they are saying return us our baby. My mind is filled with sorrow.
I completely believe that it’s only because of me, my billu is no more. The thought of, how he could have lived his life and how much he would have enjoyed, is making me more sad. I am feeling heavy carelessness guilt.
I can’t do anything now. But i can do one thing, If anyone finds baby bird or any other animal and have no idea what to do. I request you to contact me urgently, i really want to help. We can have video call or chat and if anything i can do to help you i will be more than happy.
